In a July 10th article titled “City-financed study contradicts quarry’s alleged benefits,” the North County Times discusses a Rose Institute study conducted by Manfred Keil and Gary Smith. The study was done on Granite Construction’s Liberty Quarry project and was paid for by the city of Temecula, which also funded the quarry project itself.
The study found that the project’s benefits would be “modest at best” and contends that “a 2007 study prepared by Redlands economist John Husing did not calculate any costs, making the document little more than a piece of puffery.” The authors wrote, “”A fair assessment could easily conclude that this report (Husing’s 2007 study) reads more like a Granite press release than a serious, balanced economic analysis.”
