Professor Pitney recently weighed in on the subject of Joe Biden as a Vice Presidential candidate choice in the Austin American-Statesman. Pitney comments as to Obama’s goals by selecting Biden:
“He was hoping for somebody who would appeal to working-class voters and add foreign policy expertise to the ticket,” said John Pitney, professor of government at Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, Calif.
Pitney also later comments in the article about the effect he has had on the race compared to the other Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Biden, however, has not had an obvious impact on the race.
To the extent voters are paying attention to the vice presidential candidates, they’re focused on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Pitney said.
“Biden hasn’t made much of a splash,” Pitney said. “Palin has completely eclipsed him.”
