A June 3 article in the Altadena Patch cited Rose Institute Fellow Doug Johnson on the possible effects of redistricting on the city of Altadena. The article is titled “Will Redistricting Unify Altadena or Keep it Split?”
In the article, Johnson says, “that Altadena has been an easy target for division in the past” and that “because [it] is not incorporated it hasn’t always gotten a lot of attention.” He notes that under the previous system for redistricting, the community was “split as a way of more easily making populations equal in two adjacent districts.” Johnson concludes that no no matter what happens, Altadena has a better chance of staying together now than it used to. He says, “Unless a community is asking to be split, it would be unusual.”
