The Washington Post blog “The Fix” posted an article titled “Could GOP grab control of redistricting in Virginia?” on January 31st and quoted the Rose Report’s editor and Rose Institute Associate Student Manager Mike Whatley. The article also linked to the Rose’s own recent articles on Virginia redistricting, describing it as “a great in-depth series on how the districts can be redrawn.”
In the article, Whatley is quoted warning that if Republicans do end up controlling the process and try to stretch for a 9-2 advantage in congressional representation they might hurt themselves more than they gain. He says, “Republicans need to keep in mind that they need to keep the 10th district Republican…They’ll struggle with that if they want to make 11th a Republican district.”
