Rose Institute Fellow Doug Johnson was cited in a May 28 article in the North County Times titled “Will redistricting pair Issa and Bilbray?” The article speculated as to the different possible outcomes of the Citizens Redistricting Commission.
In the article, Johnson says that “anything is possible” when it comes to redistricting in California this year. He notes that “there’s a good chance that Riverside County Republican Reps. Mary Bono Mack and Ken Calvert will see massive shifts in their district boundaries, the result of the county’s huge growth between 2000 and 2010. Bono Mack, for example, could wind up with parts of Issa’s Riverside County district.”
Johnson also says, “There’s no question that Issa could be pushed south and that Bilbray pushed into running against Davis…But there’s also a chance that Issa’s district loses its San Diego base and the 49th winds up in just Riverside.”
