PANELISTS
Stephen Mansell graduated summa cum laude from Claremont McKenna College in 1999, earning the award for Best Public Policy Senior Thesis. He subsequently graduated from Stanford Law School in 2003 and began practicing law as a litigation associate at the Irvine office of Jones Day, one of the country’s largest law firms. After working in several private law firms, Stephen transitioned to the public sector in 2011, joining the Plumas County Counsel’s Office in beautiful Quincy, California, the “Gem of the Sierras.” As one of just two attorneys in the office, he gained experience in a wide range of governmental legal matters. Since 2016, Stephen has worked for El Dorado County, just east of Sacramento, currently serving as a Senior Deputy County Counsel and specializing in employment law, as well as having the assignment to advise the El Dorado Sheriff’s Office on their legal matters. He has served as the chair of the California County Counsels’ Association’s Employment Law Conference three times and has published articles in the Daily Journal and the California State Bar’s Public Law Journal. He lives in El Dorado Hills, California, with his wife and two children.
Kelly Smith graduated in 2001 with a dual major in Economics and Literature. Kelly also attended Loyola Law School in Los Angeles and graduated in 2006. During his law school career, Kelly interned for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for two years. In 2007, Kelly joined the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office where he is currently employed as a Senior Deputy District Attorney for the Homicide Team. Kelly’s previous assignments included the Misdemeanor Unit, the Juvenile Unit, the Felony Calendar Team, the Felony Trial Team, the Outlying Calendar Team, the Truancy Prevention Grant, the Domestic Violence Team, and the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Team. Kelly also became a California Certified Specialist in Criminal Law in 2016.
Maribeth LeHoux graduated from CMC in 2006 with a degree in psychology and legal studies. After graduating, she moved to New York City where she worked as a paralegal in the corporate department at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP. She graduated from the University of Chicago Law School in 2011 before moving back to New York City where she worked in capital markets and mergers & acquisitions at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP. In 2014, she returned to her hometown of Salt Lake City to work at Ballard Spahr LLP. While there, she worked for a number of local companies, including 1-800 Contacts. In 2016, Maribeth joined the in-house legal department at 1-800 Contacts, where she is currently associate general counsel and director of corporate governance. Her practice includes corporate matters, as well as human resources and employment law.
