Rose Institute's Douglas Johnson on Victorville races

A recent article in the Victorville Daily Press quoted Rose Institute Fellow Douglas Johnson discussing how half of the incumbents in local government races in Victor Valley lost this year. Titled “Half of incumbents in school board, city council races ousted in 2010,” the article was published November 7th. These losses are similar to those around the country but different from the rest of California where incumbents tended to stay in power.

 Johnson says, “I think it reflects how the Inland Empire to some degree and the Victorville area in particular really matches the Tea Party feelings that we see nationally… The High Desert has always been more difficult for incumbents than most communities are, but even for the High Desert, that’s an extremely high turnover rate.”
