Doug Johnson was recently quoted in a Congressional Quarterly article online on the race to fill the House seat recently vacated by Hilda Solis, who was recently named United States Secretary of Labor. Doug believes this campaign will not be decided in the general election.
If the contest proceeds to a special general election, the presumptive edge would go to the incumbent’s party. The district is heavily Democratic; in November, voters gave Barack Obama 68 percent to John McCain ’s 30 percent. Republicans also declined to field a candidate against Solis in her past three re-election contests.
“This is one that will certainly be decided in the primary,†said Douglas Johnson, a fellow at the Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College.
