The deadline for Californians to turn in their secondary applications for the California Citizens Redistricting Commission is Monday, April 19th, at 5:00 PM. Applicants should be sure to read the Auditor’s guidance on how to demonstrate your qualifications in your essays. And, of course, applicants should be sure they do not violate the Commission’s conflict of interest rules. For general information, see the State Auditor’s dedicated website. To see a list of completed initial applications, go here.
The State Auditor recently added a “frequently asked questions” page to the website. It answers the questions that most often arose during the Auditor’s informational webcast for applicants, which is archived online. Interested individuals can sign up for email updates and follow the Auditor’s redistricting-related twitter account (“WeDrawTheLines”).
On Monday California’s redistricting focus will shift from the applicants to the Applicant Review Panel, as it begins to narrow the pool from the expected 3,000 complete applicants down to a pool of 120 to interview.
The widespread interest in the application process has vividly demonstrated the interest and willingness of Californians to serve our state and do redistricting the right way — focused on our communities, not our incumbents.
