In a large step for education spending research in California, the Pacific Research Institute recently launched a new web database that puts data on school district per-pupil revenue, achievement, demographic info, and staff salaries all in one readily accessible place. The database promises to be a boon for aspiring researchers, from students to professors due to its centralization of data and ease of use. It even includes a clever feature that allows you to search for school districts by California Assembly or Senate district.
Vicki E. Murray, Ph.D., associate director of Education Studies at the Pacific Research Institute had this to say about the new database:
“California has the most expansive – and expensive – public elementary and secondary education system in the country. But because of the complexity of the school finance system, it’s difficult to understand if the money is being spent effectively to educate California students,†said .
