California Turnout: 58%

Now that the Secretary of State has updated the “ballots remaining” report and Riverside has finally reported its remaining ballot counts, we can now give a statewide turnout number:

58%

Over 9 million ballots were cast (half a million of those are not yet counted).

This is a remarkably high turnout, driven primarily by the Democratic Presidential contest. With half a million ballots left to count, 54% of Republican voters cast ballots in their primary. Democratic turnout is significantly higher, but harder to calculate because they allowed independent voters to vote in their primary, and because of the ongoing problems with counting independent ballot counting in Los Angeles County.

Santa Barbara has not yet reported how many ballots they have left to count, but it’s almost certainly too small to make an impact.
