Lisa Pitney ’89, Disney Executive and Claremont McKenna College Alum, Joins the Rose Institute Board

Lisa Pitney CMC ’89, vice president of government relations for the Walt Disney Company, has been appointed to the Board of Governors of the Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College (CMC).

Pitney has worked for Disney since 1996. She has also served on the boards of the Public Policy Institute of California, the Valley Industry and Commerce Association, the Central City Association of Los Angeles, the Motion Picture Association–California Group, the Valley Economic Alliance, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Public Affairs Council of the California Chamber of Commerce.

“My career has involved the interaction of business, government, and local communities. Rarely have I seen an institute like the Rose that is so adept at preparing undergraduates for careers in these overlapping fields,” stated Pitney. “I am eager to join the board of the Rose and contribute to its mission.”

Pitney has had a long association with Claremont McKenna College. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the college, before earning a Master of Public Policy degree from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. In addition, she is married to John J. Pitney, Jr., CMC’s Roy P. Crocker Professor of Politics. They have two children.

“Lisa has a keen understanding of the relationship between government and the private sector,” said Ryder Smith ’96, chair of the Rose Institute Board. “Her years with Disney combined with her service on various policy-focused boards will prove immensely helpful in her new role on the Rose Institute’s Board.”

“With her experience in the corporate government relations sector, Lisa has strong insights into public policy, as well as the business community’s responses to changing policies. Plus, she has a national viewpoint, having overseen Disney’s government relations efforts in multiple states,” said Ken Miller, director of the Rose Institute. “Her involvement with our board will bring tremendous value to both our research and the education and development of our students.”
