Rose's Johnson on hiring former city clerks for elections

On November 29th, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune ran an article titled “La Puente selects former city manager to run city’s election” regarding the debate over bringing back a controversial city figure to conduct La Puente’s first city-run election. The article cites fellow Doug Johnson, referring to him as a “local government expert”.

According to Johnson, hiring former city clerks to run elections is common. “The elections official’s role is fairly neutral and, during these circumstances in La Puente, I’m sure she will be watched like a hawk, which is good to make sure that everything is impartial and every city clerk I know welcomes being watched by a hawk,” Johnson said. “There’s always allegations but almost never anything really wrong.”
